Patrick is a senior-level healthcare executive with more than 15 years of experience leading successful operational turnaround initiatives for independent practices, physician organizations and health systems. He has specific expertise in operations management, process improvement, physician relationships and policy development.
Patrick is an experienced healthcare executive and consultant focused on assessment, design and implementation initiatives that transition medical groups into long-standing, financially sustainable and high-functioning operations. He has extensive experience with managing a large and diverse staff, training and talent development, and physician relations.
Throughout his career, Patrick has:
- Managed a physician organization of 670 employed physicians, 405 advanced practitioners and 2,200 staff members and a budget of over $537 million.
- Coordinated the development of a five-year systemwide plan to recruit 11 hospitals, including hiring employed and independent providers via direct employment, overseeing practice acquisition and income guarantees, and providing recruitment support.
- Led the acquisition, onboarding and alignment of 45 primary care and specialty practices, including private and competing health-system-based physician offices.
- Developed, implemented and led the transformation of over 100 employed primary care physicians and staff members from a grouping of independent practices into a cohesive and functional operating unit of coordinated physicians and advanced practice providers.
Prior to joining Huron, Patrick was the executive director of physician services for Piedmont Healthcare. In this position, Patrick led the implementation of major operational activities, plans and priorities in support of the Piedmont Physicians Enterprise.
Patrick holds a master’s degree in public health nonprofit administration from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Science in finance from The University of Toledo. He is also a certified quality and performance improvement black belt from Mercer University.
Patrick is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
