Children's Mercy Kansas City Begins Transition to Huron Research Cloud
A leading pediatric medical center commits to a software-as-a-service (SaaS) strategy for its research administration suite to help grow its research programs.
As a comprehensive medical center and a designated Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit, Children's Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) is making tangible strides toward growing its research programs. This includes the development of the Children's Research Institute, a nine-story structure that will house the influx of scientific advancement, which began construction in winter 2018.
“Deploying SaaS solutions, such as Huron Research Cloud, enables us to leverage Huron’s domain expertise and process efficiencies and allows Children’s Mercy resources to focus on other strategic initiatives.” - Mark Hoffman, Chief Research Information Officer for CMKC
To better scale its research programs, the medical center plans to implement a cloud-based version of the Huron Research Suite. Starting with transitioning its Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Conflict of Interest (COI) solutions to the cloud, CMKC converted from highly customized on-premise applications to Huron’s standard upgradeable solutions hosted in the cloud. Next, the organization will transition two more on-premise solutions to the cloud and deploy a host of other Huron Research Cloud solutions over the next few years, becoming the first to adopt Huron’s comprehensive suite of research cloud products.
Through this initiative, the medical center aims to increase financial predictability, reduce overall costs and redeploy highly skilled technical resources to support higher-value research functions. And as a current user of Huron Research Suite products, CMKC researchers are already comfortable and efficient with the applications.
“Research institutions are continually challenged to allocate local resources to gain the highest return on our research dollars,” said Mark Hoffman, Chief Research Information Officer for CMKC. “Deploying SaaS solutions, such as Huron Research Cloud, enables us to leverage Huron’s domain expertise and process efficiencies and allows Children’s Mercy resources to focus on other strategic initiatives.”
