About Bill
Bill is an expert in corporate restructuring and special situations, with deep expertise in Chapter 11 bankruptcies, out-of-court restructurings, operational turnarounds, strategic alternatives, capital raises, merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions, and corporate valuations. He brings a wide range of experience, having operated as a senior distressed investor, a public company CEO, a trusted adviser, and an investment banker.
Across his career, Bill has:
- Led lender syndicates through more than $50 billion in complex debt restructurings, directing valuation analyses, overseeing sophisticated financial modeling and projections, structuring and negotiating amendments, waivers, and new-money facilities, and delivering high-impact strategic counsel throughout each engagement.
- Advised companies across a broad range of M&A initiatives — including buy-side and sell-side assessments, synergy and dis-synergy analyses, divestiture planning, capital-structure optimization, and strategic repurchase or reinvestment decisions — providing end-to-end diligence, valuation leadership, and negotiation support to enhance long-term shareholder value.
- Served as a key participant in ad hoc creditor groups across numerous complex capital structures, evaluating and deploying capital in distressed and special situations, leading rights offerings and backstop negotiations, structuring recapitalizations, and coordinating creditor strategies to maximize recoveries and long-term stakeholder outcomes.
- Acted as a fiduciary, serving as trustee and sole member of a post-Chapter 11 entity, with responsibility for day-to-day management, business-plan oversight, capital deployment, banking relationships, and ultimately the successful sale and dissolution of the company.
- Managed investment vehicles on behalf of investors following the replacement of prior limited partners, with full oversight of capital deployment, investor communications and reporting, performance monitoring, and all audit and tax processes.
- Led companies through Chapter 11 as chief executive officer, overseeing case strategy and milestones, operational performance and variance reporting, plan negotiations, regulatory compliance, and continuity of day-to-day operations.
Bill began his career as an investment banker in the financial institutions group at Goldman Sachs. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Yale University, a Master of Science from Oxford University, and a Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
