Don leads Huron’s business development and engagement activities related to health plans. Don has worked with health, life, ancillary and disability carriers of all sizes, including for-profit and nonprofit health insurance entities. Don has experience working with governmental entities at the federal and state levels; he has also worked with international insurance carriers. Don has over 30 years of experience working to improve back-, middle- and front-office operations; Don has worked with several organizations to implement large-scale, multiyear transformation initiatives. During his career, Don has organized and led several outsourcing and co-sourcing engagements, both domestically and internationally. In addition to having deep consulting experience, Don has worked for three different insurance carriers in a variety of leadership roles. Don received his B.A. from Duke University.
Prior to joining Huron, Don was vice president and client executive at Highmark Health. In this position, Don was responsible for commerial activities between the Highmark Health Family of Companies and twelve BCBS “Partner” Plans. In this role, Don managed and grew a large portfolio of diverse B2B partnerships, including strategic system implementations, process improvement initiatives and business process outsourcing. Prior to Highmark, Don was the health insurance industry partner for IBM, where he focused on digital, process optimization and productivity consulting. Don’s deep health insurance operations experience was developed while leading operating units at United HealthCare and BCBS of NC. Finally, Don served as an Accenture partner for several years after organizing and delivering “value-based” arrangements with several health insurance companies; in total, Don served Accenture clients for 15 years.
