Michael has more than 15 years of healthcare leadership experience in revenue cycle operations, patient experience, and healthcare process improvement. He has successfully led revenue cycle operations at academic medical centers, large health systems, and community hospitals. He helps clients turn around revenue performance, drive technology implementation, and increase physician engagement.

About Michael

Michael leads full-service revenue cycle operations for health systems, ensuring high-level performance and ongoing support. He connects real-world use cases, tests new solutions, and shares best-practice improvements.

Throughout his career, Michael has:

  • Led a comprehensive revenue cycle optimization for a $2.5 billion health system, including a full Epic implementation and the consolidation of five separate billing offices, resulting in a decrease of over $4 million in annual operating spending and an annual recurring cash improvement exceeding $30 million.
  • Facilitated the design and implementation of the full physician revenue cycle function to support the onboarding of 140 new physicians in two years, resulting in annual net revenue gains of more than $40 million.
  • Led a comprehensive revenue cycle optimization for a $1.4 billion health system, including a full Epic implementation, the creation of a full-service patient contact center, and the creation of the organization's first utilization management and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams. Key outcomes included a 25% annual improvement in denials and an 18% improvement in internal referral capture.
  • Led the design and implementation of internal automations, AI, and workflow improvements inside the CDI program at a large academic medical center, leading to a $15 million annual increase in revenue, a 25% reduction in mortality index scores, and a 35% improvement in physician query response rates.

Prior to joining Huron, Michael served as the executive director for mid-revenue cycle at Stanford Health Care. He has held other revenue cycle operations leadership roles at multiple organizations, including St. Luke's Health System (Boise, Idaho), Asante, and University of Utah Health.

Michael earned a Master of Business Administration and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Washington. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Utah.

Michael is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). He also serves on the boards of a youth philharmonic orchestra and a local autism foundation.
