He specializes in large-scale process redesign and performance improvement, health information system (HIS) design and the standardization, centralization and consolidation of operations in revenue cycle departments.
Since joining Huron, Nick has designed and implemented revenue cycle performance improvement solutions for organizations ranging from $150 million to over $16 billion in net patient revenue (NPR). Throughout his career, Nick has:
- Led a large-scale consolidation of revenue cycle operations for a $16 billion NPR national healthcare system where he designed a comprehensive business case, including market research and a 10-year financial cost-savings analysis. He then led the implementation of the consolidation over a two-year period, migrating revenue cycle operations from 20 business offices down to three patient business service centers.
- Managed a revenue cycle performance improvement and standardization project for a $16 billion NPR national healthcare system, where he designed and implemented best-practice standards across 75-plus hospitals in the areas of insurance verification, preregistration, pre-service liability, billing, post-service liability, denials management and customer service.
- Led a comprehensive front-end Epic workflow optimization, a focused patient liability process and reporting build-out, and the design and pilot rollout of a financial clearance policy across both the hospital and physician practices for a $1.5 billion NPR academic medical center in Chicago, Illinois, resulting in an overall process and cash flow improvement.
- Managed a revenue cycle performance improvement and tools implementation for a $700 million NPR healthcare system in the South to optimize and align processes across both hospital and physician patient access and patient financial services functions. During the engagement, Nick collaborated with both internal technical resources and client information system resources to lead the technical build and work plan to execute a successful workflow and go-live launch.
