Dan’s expertise lies at the intersection of finance, strategy, information technology, operations, and human resources. He has experience executing sustainable change in acute, post-acute, and ambulatory operations in environments ranging from private equity-backed startups to multi-entity health systems.
Throughout his career, Dan has:
- Led a bond covenant breach turnaround initiative for a large senior care campus, including a hospital, a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), a skilled nursing facility (SNF), and assisted living operations, resulting in bringing the organization into compliance.
- Led the development and rollout of a span of control and key performance indicator (KPI) management initiative for a clinical trials subsidiary of a publicly traded global medical device company, resulting in an informed turnaround that increased accountability, led to strategic clinic combinations and closures, and rightsized staff worldwide.
- Directed an Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 606 revenue recognition software tool development initiative for a targeted group of middle market private equity clients, resulting in reliable, accurate, timely, and compliant revenue recognition and board of directors reporting.
- Directed a proposal for board of directors approval for a $560 million surgical hospital replacement initiative for a high-profile hospital in a health system, resulting in the implementation of the project and the retention of market share in a highly competitive market.
- Managed an enterprise resource planning (ERP) software implementation initiative for a private equity telehealth carve-out transition (selling a minority interest of a subsidiary to outside investors), resulting in the capacity for a three-day close and real-time remote financial accountability for the private equity sponsors.
Prior to joining Huron, Dan served as a managing director at FTI Consulting. He held the role of controller, assistant vice president, at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and adjunct professor of healthcare finance for Georgetown University. He also served as chief financial officer (CFO) for a large post-acute and assisted living campus and executive director of financial planning and analysis (FP&A) at Kaiser Permanente of the Mid-Atlantic States. At Inova Health System, Dan served as CFO for ambulatory and post-acute operations, assistant vice president of finance, chief operating officer (COO) for satellite emergency room operations, COO for the employed physician practice, and CFO for the community physician medical group. He also held the role of CFO at Millennium Laser Eye Centers and director of finance at PHP Healthcare Corporation.
Dan earned a Master of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degree of business administration from The George Washington University.
Dan is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He volunteers with Habitat for Humanity and is an advisory board member of the Galen Foundation.
