About Justin
Justin guides organizations through the design, assessment, and enhancement of their financial crime compliance programs. He advises compliance leaders and executive teams on transaction monitoring and investigations, suspicious activity reporting (SAR), sanctions, know-your-customer (KYC) and enhanced due diligence requirements, and readiness for regulatory examinations.
He brings particular depth in digital assets and blockchain investigations. He helps banks, payment companies, digital asset exchanges, and stablecoin issuers understand and manage financial crime risk across both traditional and on-chain activity.
His engagements typically involve working closely with management and compliance teams during periods of heightened regulatory scrutiny. That has included stepping into interim compliance leadership roles and engaging directly with regulators through examinations and remediation. Drawing on both regulatory and investigative experience, he helps clients strengthen controls, resolve identified issues, and build programs that stand up to regulatory review.
Throughout Justin’s career, he has:
- Served as an interim BSA/AML Officer for a high-growth U.S. payments company, assuming regulatory accountability during an executive transition and leading the compliance function through a multistate examination period.
- Directed the independent validation of remediation efforts for a leading U.S. digital asset exchange following a coordinated 13-state examination by validating and issuing a written report certifying the remediation efforts resolved.
- Advised a British multinational bank on a proposed banking relationship with a major stablecoin issuer, delivering a gap assessment that informed the bank’s risk decision and onboarding conditions.
- Advised compliance leadership at a global payments provider on transforming transaction monitoring and investigations, fraud frameworks, and typology-driven rule tuning.
- Led large investigative teams for independent consultants appointed under consent agreements with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), conducting multiyear lookbacks of fiat, on-chain, and peer-to-peer transactions and supporting the filing of numerous SARs.
Prior to joining Huron, Justin was a Director in the Forensic & Litigation Consulting practice at FTI Consulting. Justin began his career at MoneyGram International, where he held several compliance roles spanning transaction monitoring, suspicious activity investigations, sanctions, agent oversight, and regulatory engagement. That in-house experience gives him a practitioner’s perspective on the operational realities his clients face.
