Western Michigan University and Huron Partner to Implement Huron's ECC Solution

In Brief

2-Minute Read

Western Michigan University reduced its effort certifications by 67 percent after implementing a project-based confirmation process using Huron's Employee Compensation Compliance (ECC) solution.

Western Michigan University (WMU) and Huron recently partnered to implement Huron’s ECC solution, a web-based tool that manages personnel compensation compliance, effort commitments, cost sharing and cost transfers. WMU is the latest of many clients to adopt an alternative method to effort reporting using this solution. Previously, WMU manually distributed individual effort statements on a semi-annually basis. Now, WMU uses the web-based ECC solution to automatically distribute project-based statements to principal investigators (PIs) on a semester basis.

This successful partnership between WMU and Huron to implement the ECC solution has been well received by our faculty and allows them to spend more time advancing their research as opposed to completing administrative work.”— Dr. Terri Goss Kinzy, vice president for research

Moving to payroll confirmation within a project-based methodology allows WMU to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the personnel compensation documentation process. As a result of implementing the ECC solution, the institution:

  • Reduced the number of people needing to confirm statements by 67 percent
  • Automated workflow for confirmations and cost transfers
  • Improved financial transparency to PIs
  • Provided more control to department administrators through detailed audit logs and custom reporting

“This successful partnership between WMU and Huron to implement the ECC solution has been well received by our faculty and allows them to spend more time advancing their research as opposed to completing administrative work,” said Dr. Terri Goss Kinzy, vice president for research.
