About Todd
For over 30 years, Todd has provided a broad range of professional services related to reorganization, turnaround and restructuring, crisis management, corporate recovery, finance transformation, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), interim management, valuation, and transaction advisory to parties in a broad variety of corporate settings, with emphasis upon the U.S. healthcare industry.
Todd represents private and public companies, not-for-profit institutions, providers, private equity, secured creditors, unsecured creditor committees, bond insurance companies, governmental entities, trustees, examiners, and other parties-in-interest. Moreover, Todd has been qualified as an expert in federal court and has testified on healthcare financial matters related to health system mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, and antitrust/complex regulatory and antitrust proceedings matters.
Todd’s healthcare sector experience includes hospitals, health systems, municipal hospital districts, academic medical centers, long-term acute care hospitals (LTACs), inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), ambulatory surgical centers, critical access hospitals (CAHs), pediatric hospitals, and clinical laboratories. Additionally, his experience includes skilled nursing care, senior housing, home health, hospice, home durable medical equipment, physician practices, physician practice management companies, independent practice associations (IPAs), HMO/managed care organizations, and institutional pharmacies.
Throughout his career, Todd has:
- Served as interim C-suite management (including Chief Restructuring Officer), leading comprehensive financial transformations, organizational restructurings, and strategic growth engagements for large integrated health systems and academic medical centers across the United States.
- Been retained as a consulting and testifying expert to defend proposed mergers of health systems against federal and state Attorney General antitrust objections. Consulting and testimony have been related to financial feasibility, solvency, and synergistic M&A attributes of the combinations.
- Led comprehensive restructuring, accounting and financial reporting transformation, and digital enterprise resource planning (ERP) reconfiguration engagements for integrated health systems composed of acute and large post-acute care asset portfolios.
- Financially and operationally reconstituted health delivery systems following merger dissolution and ultimately developed comprehensive financial performance improvement plans for the reconstituted enterprises.
- Performed transactional advisory and restructuring services related to large post-acute care affiliations and development of a comprehensive post-acute care continuing care networks for multistate health systems.
- Led buy-side and sell-side financial, operational, and regulatory due diligence related to numerous organizations and subsectors of the U.S. healthcare ecosystem.
- Been subcontracted as a surveillance director to provide monitoring, supervisory, financial advisory, workout services, and turnaround strategies in connection with large credit enhancers’ multibillion-dollar distressed tax-exempt portfolios, as well as advise upon credit-specific workout strategies.
- Served as a restructuring advisor to bondholder/lending groups related to distressed workout proceedings (both in and out of court).
- Served as a lead restructuring advisor and interim management for physician-syndicated specialty acute care hospitals requiring resyndication management as part of a sale process.
Prior to joining Huron, Todd led Deloitte’s healthcare turnaround and restructuring practice. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles within large professional services firms, focusing on business recovery, valuation, and mergers and acquisitions advisory. In these corporate valuation and M&A roles, Todd completed fairness opinions of for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare system transactions; fixed and intangible asset valuations of multi-industry companies; and financial feasibility studies for inclusion into municipal bond offerings.
Todd earned a Bachelor of Science from Seton Hall University.
Todd is a frequent speaker on healthcare restructuring, financial stress, and risk management, including presentations for Becker’s Healthcare, the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), and Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA). Todd is a member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) ABI, and HFMA.
