Case Study Virginia Hospital Center Revenue Cycle
Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) wanted to build on the success of several internal revenue cycle improvement initiatives while preparing to implement a new Health Information System. VHC partnered with Huron Healthcare to redesign processes, implement new tools, improve reporting, and train staff across the revenue cycle.
Establishing a strong foundation for improved performance prior to beginning an HIS conversion helped accelerate results and increase cash flow. Huron’s training and support allowed VHC staff to take ownership of the new processes, while improved tools led to a new level of staff satisfaction and accountability. The engagement led to a 33 percent increase in self-pay patients financially screened in-house, a reduction of A/R days from 50.4 to 47.5, a 39 percent decrease of billing work in progress, and an annual income improvement of $8.8 million.
